Family
Family Assessment
You must have immediate
family (parent, brother/sister or child) living legally in New Zealand
for 184 days in each of the 3 years immediately prior to the date of
your application. Other requirements depend on your relationship to the
family in New Zealand. Your sponsor must be able to provide full
financial and accommodation support for you (and your family), for your
first two years in New Zealand. Welfare payments are generally not
payable to new immigrants.
Definitions:
- Spouse/Partner: includes married, de facto and same-sex relationships. Couples must have lived together in a stable relationship for 12 months and provide supporting documentation as proof of this.
- Dependent Child: The applicant must be aged between 17 to 24 years with no children of their own, single and totally or substantially financially dependent and their parent[s] are lawfully and permanently in New Zealand, or; aged 16 years or younger, single, totally and substantially financially dependent and their parents are lawfully and permanently in New Zealand.
- Parent: the applicant must be the parent of an adult New Zealand resident or citizen. Restrictions apply, based on the number, age and place of legal residence of all children. The sponsor must have been a permanent resident in New Zealand for 3 years.
- Adult Child/Sibling: must be the
child, brother or sister of an adult New Zealand resident or citizen.
The applicant must be aged 55 or younger at the time the application is
made and have no other brothers or sisters or parents in their country
of legal residence. Other requirements depend on the applicant's
relationship to the New Zealand family member. Sponsors must have been
permanently resident in New Zealand for 3 years. Adult siblings and
adult children require a valid offer of employment to be eligible for
sponsorship.
Fees
The fees for
lodging an application under the Family categories range from NZD$6,000
to NZD$7,500 depending upon category and government fees. Government
fees vary by country of residence and citizenship.
Additional
visas or permits for accompanying family members may incur a further
fee and we will be pleased to provide a detailed quotation, without
obligation, subject to a positive assessment.
